Tahawus means Cloud Splitter and is what the Natives called the Mountain that is now known as Mt Marcy. It also is the name of the Mine where Iron Ore was extracted and smelted to help build America and latter provided Titanium for the war effort. The Village of Adirondac in the shadow of Tahawus, now a ghost town, is where many a mining family lived and remains alive in the memories of the children who grew up there.
