Henry Hudson Barton was a jeweler who came to North Creek searching for gem stones and found the area to be rich in garnet. Mr. Barton stayed and opened Barton Mines in 1878. The mine is still in operation today on Ruby Mountain. While gem quality stones can be found, Gore Mountain Garnet, as it is known, is used for many different applications including polish for the Hubble space telescope lens. This coffee is a medium roast and makes a smooth cup of coffee like it was polished with garnet.
